Employer-paid training with potential Ohio TechCred reimbursement
Ohio employers may be reimbursed for up to $1,000 per employee, per approved credential through Ohio’s TechCred program. Penta Career Center Adult Education offers short-term, technology-focused training options for employers pursuing approved TechCred credentials.
Employers may receive up to $30,000 per application period.

Who is eligible?
Eligible employers must:
- Be registered with the Ohio Secretary of State.
- Have a physical, non-residential business location in Ohio.
- Employ Ohio resident W-2 employees.
- Report employees to the Ohio Unemployment Insurance Office through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
- Withhold Ohio income tax for employees.
Public entities, including public schools, local governments, libraries, and state agencies, are not eligible for TechCred reimbursement.
Employees earning credentials must be Ohio residents with a verifiable Ohio address and must be W-2 employees at the time reimbursement is requested. Independent contractors and 1099 employees are not eligible.
What costs may be reimbursed?
Eligible employers may request reimbursement for:
- Tuition
- Lab fees
- Manuals and textbooks
- Certification testing costs
The employer must pay these costs. Wages, travel, hardware, equipment, software platforms, memberships, subscriptions, conferences, and training bundles are not eligible for reimbursement.
Important timing requirements
Training for an approved credential must begin no earlier than the effective date of the grant agreement. Training must be completed within 12 months of the award date.
Employers may submit reimbursement requests after an employee earns the credential and the grant agreement is executed. Final reimbursement requests are due within 30 days of the grant end date.

Penta Career Center Adult Education can provide course descriptions, schedules, standard commercial pricing, and credential documentation for its training offerings.
Only the exact credential approved in an employer’s TechCred application is eligible for reimbursement. Substitutions, alternate versions, and unlisted credentials are not eligible.

Credential Details
Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW): Learners develop practical skills in setting up and operating FCAW welding equipment, applying welding techniques, interpreting welding variables, and troubleshooting common equipment and process issues. Training emphasizes producing quality welds in industrial settings through hands-on technical application.
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW): Learners develop practical skills in Gas Metal Arc Welding processes, including wire and shielding-gas selection, blueprint interpretation, and performing fillet and groove welds in multiple positions. Training also includes safe metal-cutting procedures using oxy-acetylene and plasma-cutting equipment.
The credential name on the participant’s completion documentation must exactly match the credential approved in the employer’s TechCred application.
